TV Time shut down — the alternative that keeps your watch history

TV Time closed on 15 July 2026. Before it went, the service let users request a GDPR data export: a .zip archive emailed to the address on the account. For most people that archive is now the only surviving copy of their watch history — and it is enough. Seenfy reads it exactly as it arrived, still zipped, and rebuilds the library from it. What happened to TV Time?

TV Time — the episode-tracking app formerly known as TVShow Time — shut down on 15 July 2026. The apps stopped working and the accounts behind them went with the service. In the run-up, users could request a copy of their data under GDPR and receive it as a .zip archive by email. There is no way to request a new one now, so if you have that email, keep it: it holds every episode you ever ticked off.

Where to find your TV Time export

Search the inbox of the address your TV Time account used for mail from TV Time or TVShow Time, including spam and any "Promotions" tab. The attachment (or download link) is a .zip containing a folder of .csv files — names like followed_tv_show.csv, user_tv_show_data.csv and a long tracking-prod-records log. Download it and leave it zipped. Seenfy takes the archive whole; unpacking it first and picking a single .csv gives it only a fragment of your history.

What transfers to Seenfy

The rule the importer is written to: an import must preserve everything the export contains. Where Seenfy had no field for something, the field was added rather than dropping the data. From a full export you get:

• Every show and movie you followed, matched to the catalog by its TheTVDB id, with artwork and episode counts filled in.
• Every watched episode, with the date you watched it and how many times you rewatched it — not just a count of episodes seen.
• Show status, worked out from the export: watching, planned, on hold (archived in TV Time), dropped (stopped watching) or completed.
• Your watchlist — everything marked “to watch” arrives as planned.
• Emotion reactions left on episodes and movies, kept on the mark they belong to.
• Favorites, for both series and movies.
• Rewatch counts for whole shows and for individual movies.
• Where you watched — the streaming platform recorded against an episode, when the export carries it.
• Custom lists, kept with their names and members.
• Your comments. Episode, show and movie comments are re-posted to the matching Seenfy thread with their original dates. Anything that cannot be attached to a title — plus character votes and badges — is stored on your account as raw data rather than thrown away.

How to import your TV Time export into Seenfy

The import runs the same way on the web and in the mobile apps, and the archive is read on your own device — the .csv files are never uploaded anywhere. On the web:

1. Download the .zip TV Time emailed you. Do not unpack it.
2. Open Seenfy on the web and sign in, or create an account — it takes one tap with Google or Apple.
3. Go to Settings → Import & export → Import from TV Time.
4. Press Choose .zip file and pick the archive. Your browser reads it on the spot and shows a preview: how many shows, movies, watched episodes and comments it found.
5. Press Import and leave the tab open. Progress is shown as a running count while each title is matched to the catalog.
6. When it says Import finished, your library is there — on the web and in the app, on every device you sign in on.

On iPhone or Android the path is the same — Settings → Import & export → Import from TV Time, then pick the .zip from Files — and new accounts are offered the import during onboarding, before anything else is set up.

Importing twice is safe. Titles are merged by catalog id rather than duplicated: anything already in your library keeps its status and rating, and only the missing episodes, dates and reactions are filled in. If an import is interrupted, picking the file again picks up where it left off.

What does not come across

Only what the export itself omits. Images and GIFs attached to your comments are not in the archive, nor are other people's comments or the identities of everyone who liked yours — a comment arrives with its like count from TV Time, not its likers. Reactions left on episodes you never marked as watched have nothing to attach to. Everything else in the file is imported.
